Fantastic experience!

The resort was wonderful! We did the backwater boat tour with Pratheep. Pratheep was very knowledgeable of the area and we had so much fun with him and our captain! Food was fantastic! The room was beautiful. Overall a very relaxing and enjoyable stay.

Highly recommended

Arrival to the property is by a short boat ride, on a lovingly restored boat.
Our room was spacious and housekeeping kept it clean and tidy during our stay.
The chefs cooked us delicious meals, which were all served by the friendly and helpful staff.
There are lots of activities- some are complimentary and some are paid for.
A cycle tour with the naturalist (Pratheesh) at 7am is a must - especially for bird watchers.

A Hidden Gem in the Heart of the Backwaters – Coconut Lagoon, CGH Earth

Our stay at Coconut Lagoon was nothing short of magical. One of the highlights was the off-beat tour, which took us beyond the usual tourist experiences and deep into the soul of Kerala’s village life. Led by Vishnu, a naturalist with deep knowledge and a gentle manner, we got the rare opportunity to interact with locals and explore beautiful, lesser-known parts of the region. It’s something you don’t get to do on a typical holiday, and it added so much depth to our trip.
The staff across the property—from the reception to the restaurants—were impeccably trained, polite, and always ready to help. Their warm hospitality truly elevated the experience.
We also thoroughly enjoyed kayaking on the Vembanad Lake, which offered serene views and moments of pure calm. The bird watching experience was outstanding, as we spotted several rare species—thanks in part to the property’s location directly across from the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary. It’s truly a paradise for bird photographers and birdwatchers alike. The electric cycles available on the property were well-maintained and made exploring the lush landscape easy and enjoyable.
The food was delicious, especially the traditional Kerala dishes, though we felt the restaurants could benefit from a slightly wider selection.
That said, I would highly recommend Coconut Lagoon to anyone looking to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the backwaters and the cultural richness of Kumarakom. It’s a place that reconnects you with nature, people, and peace.

Lovely setting, a few small issues

You arrive in real style at the CGH Earth Coconut Lagoon by driving to a boat dock and then getting a transfer boat directly to Reception. We were greeted by staff and a great tabla drum player. The receptionist who checked us in though seemed very subdued and distracted and although we were checked in efficiently it was not a warm welcome. The bungalow we were given was very nice, with a heritage feel with a comfortable bed, wardrobe, safe and tea and coffee making facilities, a verandah to sit out on, but the Wi-Fi was problematic and there were occasional power cuts. The bathroom was outside, with a good shower and sink, but not many places to hang things. The grounds are lovely, overlooking the canal and lake, with lots of bird life. There is even an early morning birdwatching walk that we went on with a naturalist where we saw a variety of species. There are many other activities at the Coconut Lagoon. There is a shop, a butterfly garden, a turtle and fishpond which you can feed and a sunset cruise, that goes out onto Vembanad Lake. You can see some more birdlife but, on our cruise, it was sadly cloudy, so we did not see much sunset. There is a very good traditional folk dancer in the evening which you can watch. Food at the Coconut Lagoon is very good. We had a very good selection of fish curries at the seafood restaurant, which overlooks the lake and had an open kitchen. They did initially get our drinks order wrong, but this was soon rectified after a short time. It took a while for our food to arrive, but several people checked to make sure we were OK and if we needed anything and since it was such a nice setting we had no problem waiting. Breakfast in the main restaurant was very good with tea/coffee and eggs made to order and a large selection of fruit, cereal, bread and hot and cold dishes available in a buffet. Check out was smooth and efficient with another nice boat transfer back to the quay. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Coconut Lagoon, but it could have been special with a few issues mentioned above avoided.

Namaskaram TokyoJimmy, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at Coconut Lagoon. We are thrilled to hear that you appreciated the unique arrival by boat, the beauty of our surroundings, and the variety of activities we offer, including the early morning birdwatching walk and traditional folk performances. We sincerely apologize for the subdued welcome at reception and any inconvenience caused by the Wi-Fi issues, power cuts, and few hangers in the bathroom. Your feedback about these concerns is invaluable, and we are committed to addressing them promptly to enhance the experience for future guests. I'm delighted that you enjoyed the comfort and heritage feel of your bungalow, as well as the food offerings, especially at our seafood restaurant. I appreciate your understanding regarding the initial mix-up with your drink order and the wait time for food; we will continue to work on improving our service efficiency. We are grateful for your input and hope to make your next stay extra special, with all aspects of your visit meeting your expectations and beyond. We look forward to welcoming you back again soon for another memorable stay. Warm Regards, Harikrishnan R , Genaral Manager Coconut Lagoon
