DO NOT STAY HERE! THE STAFF ROBBED ME!
The wifi never worked and I called the desk multiple times per day. The staff were rude and full of excuses for everything. After leaving in the morning and coming back in the afternoon, my room still hadn't been cleaned. Still more excuses. The gym is a closet full of busted old equipment.
The safe in the room didn't work and again, the staff were not helpful. They would not change my room and they would not bring another safe. At that point, I really should have left. On the second to last day, I came back to the room and two of my mobile phones and Bose portable speaker had been stolen from my suitcase. The staff denied everything and I asked to speak to the manager/owner. He accused me of lying and offered no compensation, despite the safe being non-functional and the staff refusing to fix the situation.
All I was offered was a free one-night stay next time I came to Abuja, which I laughed at. I understand that every business can have its ups and downs but these people are crooks and have no care for customer service or hospitality.
There are plenty of other options in Wuse II. Casalinda is not worth the risk.

Casalinda Hotel Resort & Gallery - A Bright Star; Rising Out Of The Very Heart of Nigeria!
1) Lication & Environment: The hotel is located in the heart of a very nice and reasonably secure residential area that is quite central and easily accessible. The front approach and general ambience is very warm and homely. At this point, I would rate this whole aspect 3.5-star, but it would easily be 4 to 5 star if some of my feedback to management/ownership are implemented. We'll see when I go back.
2) Management, Staff & Cutomer Services: Management appears quite focused and highly experienced; as well as visionary and forward looking. The Staff appear to have CustomerCare and service culture; genuinely embedded in their attitude and disposition. The Staff and Management team were very attentive and responsive to feedback and this is highly commendable. At this point, I would rate this whole aspect 3.5-star, but it would easily be 4 to 5 star if some of my feedback to management/ownership are implemented. We'll see when I go back.
3) Facilities (including Gym, Spa, Pool, Dining etc.): The dining and leisure facilities are in place and if better staffed and recommendations implemented; could quite easily match international standards. The light was remarkably constant and stable. I also really commend the chef. However, menu prices could better match bills as a few billing surprises occurred. At this point, I would rate this whole aspect 2-star, but it would easily be 3 to 3.5 star if some of my feedback to management/ownership are implemented. We'll see when I go back.
4) Rooms, Rates & Compliments: Casalinda boasts of a variety of room categories with exciting character: Standard, Classic, Executive, Mini Suite, Executive Suite, Penthouse Classic Suite, Penthouse Executive Suite, Honeymoon Suite, Presidential Suite and Penthouse. I stayed in one of the Classic Suites but the have cursory inspection/viewing of at least one room in each of their room categories. The room rates appear reasonably comparative and somewhat competitive to what's generally obtainable within the city of Abuja. The rooms come with free wifi, complimentary breakfast and bottled water and tea condiments in the room. At this point, I would rate this whole aspect 1.5-star, but it would easily be 3 to 3.5 star if some of my feedback to management/ownership are implemented and Casalinda could quite easily edge over competitors. We'll see when I go back.
5) Logistics and Ancillary Services: the hotel offers airport shuttle buses as a paid service but my service requests were not attended to and so this aspect rates very poorly for this very easily available reason! Also, the arrangements for within-city protocol/carhure services would enhance rating if provided and managed in-house; additional to airport shuttles. At this point, I would rate this whole aspect 0.5-star, but it would easily be 3 to 4 star if some of my feedback to management/ownership are implemented. We'll see when I go back.
6) Salsa: I was made aware that (fir salsa fun) Casalinda is the the number one go-to place in the whole of Abuja. I was only able to witness the instruction classes on the Tuesday night and that was really clean and enjoyable to watch. However, I was not there long enough to witness the Friday night full blast. Based on my limited experience of this aspect, i would rate this aspect a 1-star at this time. I hope to review this further after my followup visit in April 2018.
7) Conferencing & Business Support: Casalinda also boasts of a large and very nice conference room with ancillary secretarial/business support services. I was unable to fully experience this adjective. However, I feel it's a little pricy and a downward rate review would make it more accessible to business guests. At this point I would rate this whole aspect 1-star. I hope to review this further after my followup visit in April 2018.
CONCLUSION: In my opinion and brief experience of Casalinda Hotel, I am of the view that Casalinda is a deeply aspirational hotel that reminds me of the Duke Boutique Hotel in Victoria, Gozo Isand, Malta. Although the boutique element is still developing. At this time, I would rate Casalinda an overall 2-star. However, I under that a lot of proposed works and improvements efforts are underway and I have no doubt that (given) the proactive and responsive management ethos that my feedback recommendations will also be implemented and thus Casalinda could quite easily rise to the bright and shining 3-4 star hotel that it potentially is. But we will see when I do my followup visit in April 2018. In any case, even as is, it was quite an enjoyable and comfortable two-night stay for me and I would highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Abuja.
