Disappointing Stay Despite Prime Location

Booking Context
We stayed at Generaator Sofia as part of a Wowcher/Travelodeal mystery break, so the hotel was not our own choice. This made the condition of the accommodation all the more disappointing.
Room Condition
The room was very basic and not well maintained. Surfaces were covered in dust, the walls had unexplained stains, and the furniture consisted only of a table with two wooden chairs. The two twin beds pushed together had a comfortable mattress topper, but the sheets felt below standard and left us uneasy about using them.
Bathroom Issues
The bathroom presented several problems. There was visible mould on the ceiling, the overhead shower did not work, and the only functioning option was a handheld shower attached to the sink. Without any enclosure, the entire bathroom became soaked after every use, making it very inconvenient.
Amenities
While a kettle was provided, there were no tea or coffee supplies, which felt like another overlooked detail.
Staff & Location
Some of the staff were genuinely welcoming and helpful, and the location is the hotel’s strongest point—within walking distance of key attractions and easily accessible from the airport by train and a short walk.
Overall Impression
Although the hotel benefits from a prime location and a few lovely staff members, the general lack of cleanliness and poor room maintenance overshadowed our stay. Overall rating: 2/5.

Clean room and a comfortable stay. Self check-in due to arriving late and instructions were simple and clear. Great location for a stay in Sofia.

Staff brilliant, loads of shops and restaurants nearby and great air conditioning in the room. Location is good and it’s a pleasant amble from the bus and train station.
The drainage in the shower room I was staying in couldn’t handle the amount of water so it flooded into the bedroom. Judging from the floor repairs this is a regular occurrence which is a shame as apart from that it’s a great place to stay.

Great location and very comfortable hotel. We walked every where we wanted to see at the city center. Perfect for the prize. Clean and tidy. Rooms were big beds were comfortable. Very helpful staff. Only bathroom was a bit small but clean so acceptable.
