Value stay with good food and onsen. First room assigned was not the cleanest, but staff changed the room on request. Peaceful & scenic, ideal for a relaxing stay to enjoy the area. No stores nearby though.

Tsunami survivor that is deservedly flourishing

This hotel has a fantastic location, directly overlooking a little harbor and the sea, amazing walks (perhaps hikes is a better word) along the coast in either direction, including the tunnels at Kitayamasaki and the Unosu Cliffs, an excellent hot spring bath with ocean views and big tatami rooms. The food is fantastic and the sunrise fishing boat cruise recommended. More than anything, the staff are an absolute delight. Despite being inundated up to the third floor in the tsunami, the hotel is still proudly standing and very much open for business.

Great surprise!

We stumbled upon this hotel after getting a little lost at night. The front desk was very helpful, inviting, and was able to speak English to us! When we got to our room we were surprised to see a very neat Japanese style hotel room with ice water and hot water waiting for us! We could hear the waves splashing, but could not see much in the dark. We went to eat at a restaurant (open until 11p), which also surprised us. It was great authentic Japanese food. Delicious! When we woke up in the morning we could see the beautiful view out our window. All rooms have an ocean front view! And this hotel also has an onsen. Overall a great experience!

great ocean views, convenient access to Kitayamazaki

Hotel Ragaso enjoys a great oceanside setting, with rooms looking out to the water. The hotel was clean and comfortable, but felt a little worn. Internet access was unavailable. Happily, the windows were screened and so could be opened to admit the lovely fresh air. The public bath was OK -- just one large (and too hot!) indoor pool, cold bath, and sauna. Dinner was very good -- lots of tasty fish. Sadly, the hall in which meals were served felt bleak and uninviting.
I would recommend the hotel as a reasonable overnight stay for travelers to the Iwate coastline. Kitayamazaki Observatory is a noteworthy stop located about 30 minutes from the hotel.
