Wonderful experience
We took our family and our 4 year old Grandson to this beautiful place and it was everything we could have asked for. The Cottage make us feel like we had stepped back in time and had everything we needed The animals were a wonderful part of our stay as well as the Campbell family. Can’t wait for us to all return in 2020.

I should have been suspicious from the beginning when the owner Cheryl insisted I send her an e-transfer for the entire weekend rather than a credit card deposit. I was looking for a spot close to family for Thanksgiving weekend and Bugaboo cottage was such a disappointment. I expected rustic, aged and country style. Island properties are generally inspected by the tourism association and have some standards, somehow the cottage we checked in to was well below the usual island standards. The homestead cottage deck is extremely slanted and has seen better days. Upon entry, the cottage smelled like a barn although it appeared clean. Everything inside was very worn, it was dark and the busy highway next to the cottage was quite loud. The walls of the building are leaning and a quick walk around outside showed issues with the foundation. The building has seen much better days as has the boarded up barn next to the cottage. The hot tub out back is on a deck that has also seen much better days and the deck next to it is falling apart. I don't like to complain but I very very politely approached the owner Cheryl about the standard of the cottage not meeting our expectations and she quickly went from sweet as pie to very defensive and used the line I have seen in several reviews that all of the guests love the property and I should have done more research before coming. She refused to refund any of my 2 night rental fee to begin with and after several minutes of discussing it, she agreed to refund one night. I booked another place for myself and my two kids that we felt comfortable and safe at. We booked as part of a stay2get$100 promotion run by the province and the owner encouraged us to return our unused gift card to her so she could use it for personal use - we did give it back to her upon leaving as we didn't stay but her comment that she has used other guest's gift cards left a sour taste. Please read ALL reviews before booking, there are several that I wish I had read prior to going. One positive is that the animals are a really nice addition to the property.

This wonderful set of cottages is so cozy beautifully decorated in rustic themes of the island and is centrally located just minutes from the bridge. Bugaboos is owned by the sweetest people who made us feel right at home on our off season, last minute visit our dearest friends and their new baby. Our large family of six and two dogs fit right in on this hobby farm / cottages, and the owners daughter even let our children play with and handle the horses and animals around the farm and do a pony ride. We will look to stay here any time we visit in the future.

Great experience until the end when the owner showed her true colours!
MAKE SURE YOU CHECK OUT ONTIME AT 10AM!!!!...We made an honest mistake of thinking checkout time was at 11am like most other rental places and hotels. The owner came banging and yelling at our door at 10:20. We quickly got out of there as fast as we could. We were very taken back by that experience that morning. We don't like leaving bad reviews, so we didn't on the airbnb page. UNTILL, she left a private message about how checkout time is marked, "very clearly!" (she mentioned us many times since check out saying it was marked "very clearly", we get it! It was our fault we over looked it!). She also added, and I quote, "The amount of alcohol that was consumed in the 2 short nights you were here is a bad example to your little boys. Our property has so many fun things for children to do, it's to bad they did not get a chance to do anything. They are only young for a short time, enjoy them while you can"...Very judgmental and unnecessary private message for her to send. So to explain our side...we arrived the first day at 8:30 at night and it was dark. The second day it rained hard all day, so we obviously stayed in all day. Also that was the last 2 days of a 30 day vacation of touring the east coast. We also take our children on 2 vacations a year, and they are almost entirely is planned around their enjoyment. We can relax and enjoy our selves one or two of those nights for our enjoyment too, thank you very much! Its too bad, because we loved the cottage and our stay before that! and we do wish we could have took part in the things that were available on the farm, if we didn't arrive late the first night and didn't rain all the next!

Disappointing--both the place and the attitude of the owner.
I HATE writing bad reviews--as a retired innkeeper I know how much it hurts when someone criticizes your business. But I also know that you need to LISTEN and respond -- not by taking it out on the guest, but by improving your property, I rated Bugaboo as average on AirBNB and sent Cheryl a private note detailing some issues. My intent was to help her improve so that others would have an improved experience. She basically told me to mind my own business. Well, since writing reviews for trip advisor is a part of my business here is what I think of her property. When the original remodeling of the farm was done, the rooms must have been cute. The decor is fishing/country/farm/cottage--shabby chic. I actually enjoy that style and it was part of the reason I picked this place to stay. Unfortunately over the years, the shabby has increased and the chic is no longer there. The wallpaper is peeling everywhere, especially in the bathroom. The plumbing in the bathroom is so bad it took 2-4 flushes to get it to work--and another handle adjustment to then get it to stop running. The clawfoot tub is rusted and the curtains are tattered. The vent fan can't even start to remove the humidity and the shower curtains don't contain the water so you can see where it is running onto the floor and into the wall. The windows all need some work--and one was so rotten that the hardware came off in my hand when I tried to open it. The kitchen table has several screws missing from hinges (Cheryl tried to repair it with tape after I complained that I was afraid the extension might fall off.) The beds were actually fine--except the cheap plastic mattress pad made us sweat heavily. My towel was old and stained. We honored her rather odd rule of not cooking fish or lobster in our kitchen and bought a cooked one instead, only to have her reprimand us the next day for putting the shells in the garbage bag that was marked for composting as she could smell them the next day. On the positive side--we enjoyed the farm animals, the dog--and even Cheryl and her daughter. What we didn't enjoy were the horrible mosquitos. Again--kudos to them, the screens on the windows are all in top shape. There were few of the amenities that most AirBNB owners leave for their guests, but we came prepared for that so that was OK. But I guess you should be warned--Cheryl's email to me said: "Our cottages are advertised as century- old barns turned into cottages. No fancy but cozy. 99.5 percent of folks over the past 20 years in this business love them just as they are. Then there are always others who feel the need to point out every little flaw. I do take the reviews to heart so it is nice to hear the kind words but then leave it there. We know what needs to be done. " So if you choose to stay there, just be sure to love it.
